Bumbo Baby Seat

In August 2012, Bumbo International Trust conducted a voluntary recall to add a restraint belt and new warnings to the Bumbo® Baby Seat. Bumbo worked closely with the CPSC to implement corrective action – the distribution of repair kits, which included a belt, installation instructions, proper use instructions and a new warning sticker for the product. As part of our commitment to safety, this corrective action ceased in 2022.

Any modifications to foam that's more than 10 years old may compromise the integrity of the product as, with time, the foam begins to wear and can tear when a belt is installed.

Bumbo Floor Seat Instructions for Safe Use

The Bumbo Floor Seat enables your baby to maintain a sitting position on the floor, allowing you to play with, read to, and feed your baby. The Bumbo Floor Seat should not be used until your baby can support his or her head.
Use Responsibly
  • Use the belt. Without the belt, your baby may be able to escape from and fall out of the Bumbo Floor Seat suddenly. If the belt is damaged, stop using the Bumbo Seat.
  • Stay with and watch your baby during use.
  • Do not use the Bumbo Floor Seat for prolonged periods.
  • Do not attach strings or cords to the product – they can cause entanglement or strangulation.
  • Store the Bumbo Floor Seat out of reach of children. When not in use, belts can cause entanglement or strangulation.
Your belted baby may be able to cause the Bumbo Floor Seat to move
  • Do not use on raised surfaces such as tables, counters, chairs, beds, or near stairs to prevent risk of serious injury from falls.
  • Place flat on floor or ground on a firm, level surface and keep away from walls or other objects your child could push against to avoid tip over.
  • Consider the surroundings. Keep away from strings or cords (such as those on window coverings) that can cause strangulation. Look out for heavy objects your baby could pull over.
Use appropriately: the Bumbo Floor Seat is not a replacement for other baby products
  • Do not use as a booster seat or in place of a high chair. The Bumbo Floor Seat should never be used on raised surfaces.
  • Do not use as a bath seat or in a kiddie pool. Using the Bumbo Floor Seat in or near water can lead to drowning.
  • Do not use in place of a crib or play yard. Your baby may be able to move the Bumbo Seat.
  • Do not use as a child carrier. Lifting, tilting, or carrying the Bumbo Floor Seat while your baby is in it can result in a fall injury.
  • Do not use as a car seat.

Frequently asked questions
What should I do if I have one of the recalled Bumbo Floor Seats?

Unfortunately, we are no longer providing repair kits for these seats. Any old, recalled seats without straps should be disposed of. Please refer to the text at the top of this page for more information about the voluntary recall of 2012.
Can I leave my baby unattended when using the restraint belt?

You must always stay with and watch your baby during use. Even when the restraint belt is used, a baby can cause the Bumbo Floor Seats to slide or move.
With the restraint belt can I put my baby in the Bumbo Floor Seat on a raised surface, in a bathtub or in a car?

No. It is important to follow all of the instructions and have a clear understanding of the product warnings on the seat and included in the product manual. The Bumbo Floor Seat is designed to be used only on the floor. Do NOT use the Bumbo Floor Seat on any raised surface such as tables, counters, chairs, or beds to prevent risk of serious injury from falls.

What is the difference between the Bumbo Multi Seat and the Bumbo Floor Seat?

The age range and functions of the two seats are fundamentally different. The Bumbo Floor Seat is recommended for babies who are 3-12 months old that can support their own neck, and the Bumbo Multi Seat is recommended for babies who are 6 months to 36 months old and can sit unassisted (supporting their own head and back). The Multi Seat can also be used as a booster seat, as it comes with adjustable chair straps, whereas the Floor Seat can only be used on the floor. A parent should be within arms reach of the child while in either seat.
